Alexis Abramson, dean of Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth, has been appointed to a second four-year term, Provost David Kotz '86 announced on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.
The chair of the Board of Trustees shares her perspective on leadership, Dartmouth's priorities, and the role engineering should play in the liberal arts. Since joining Thayer's Board of Advisors in 2012 to her 2018 alumni election to Dartmouth's Board of Trustees, Lempres has applied her leadership acumen in service to the College.
Dartmouth has launched a $100 million program, Dartmouth STEM-X, to increase access for and leadership opportunities of historically underrepresented groups in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), and prepare the next generation of leaders in these fields, President Philip J. Hanlon '77 announced at a forum for alumni, technology leaders, and entrepreneurs in San Francisco on December 6.
Cofounder and CTO of Nanopath, Alison Burklund Ph.D. GR'21 TH'21, has been named to the Forbes 30 under 30. Nanopath creates diagnostics that test pelvic and gynecologic infections during a single visit, so treatment can begin right away.
Professor Eugene Korsunskiy believes the Senior Design Thinking interdisciplinary capstone course, with its emphasis on melding engineering with the liberal arts, could only happen at Thayer School. His vision for the class focuses on creating innovators, not just innovations; collaborators capable of walking into any project with a toolkit, and walking out with a solution.
